Audacity 3.0.3 a couple of questions

Two questions:

  1. Do the new 64-bit and 32-bit builds support 24-bit recording on Windows 10?
  2. Can the new 64-bit build coexist with a previous 32-bit install on Windows x64?

Thanks.

Yes, Audacity 3.0.3 supports 24-bit recording on Windows 10, but in most cases it is recommended to record as 32-bit float (default).

Whether or not Audacity actually receives 24-bit data from an audio device depends on the audio device hardware and drivers. For example, if you have a 24-bit sound card and the WASAPI drivers support 24-bit but the DirectSound drivers only support 16-bit, then when recording as 32-bit float with Audacity, you will get 24-bit data padded to 32-bit float when recording with WASAPI host, or 16-bit data padded to 32-bit float when recording with DirectSound host.

Possible, but not recommended.
You are likely to see duplicate effect entries due to the presence of 32-bit and 64-bit effects.

Better to do a clean install of the 64-bit version (uninstall the 32-bit version first).
If you have problems with the 64-bit version and want to revert back to the 32-bit version, uninstall the 64-bit version and do a clean install of the 32-bit version.
