No response when I hit play or rec
PT is stuck on PAUSE! When I try to playback or record, it goes to PAUSE. How do I turn THAT off?

Which version of Audacity are you using?
What are you trying to do?

Perhaps you have Sound Activated Recording activated. See Transport > Transport Options... or: Recording Preferences
