FFMPEG file installed, but audacity won't open .mp4 file (v.3.0.1 Release)

Hello! So I have just saved and remuxed a video from OBS studio, in the past I have already done this and audacity has imported the remuxed file (mp4). Just installed audacity on a new system and installed FFMPEG v.2.2.2, but audacity can’t seem to open the mp4 file. I have reinstalled the FFMPEG several times, restarted audacity and even automatically/manually detected the “avformat-55.dll”, it still does not work.

Error message: “.mp4” is an Advanced Audio Coding File. Without the optional FFmpeg library, Audacity cannot open this type of file. Otherwise you need to convert it to a supported audio format, such as WAV or AIFF.

  1. I would start by downloading the most recent version of Audacity from here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/

  2. When you installed FFMPEG, did you download the .zip or the .exe file?

  3. Try to open your .mp4 file again, then post the contents of your Audacity log. Help > Diagnostics > Show Log.
