Issue:
I previously had a Fifine microphone and was able to play music (or anything) while also recording on Audacity. I recently switched to a Rode NT1 mic and am no longer able to record while playing another track. If I even have Youtube open (or another program that allows me to listen to something), the recording feature does not work in Audacity. It will appear “red” when I hit the record button, but then it will not record at all. After closing Youtube (or another program), I will then be able to record but it takes a few clicks of the Record button in Audacity to get going (Record - Stop - Record - Stop - Record).
Please let me know if there is a solution for this within Audacity. If not, I will see what it could be on the Rode side. Please note that the “Play other tracks while recording (overdub)” feature in Preferences is checked in Audacity, so it is not that.
No, only trying to record my voice. I might be listening to the music in the background because that is what the client would like the script to be read to or I might be listening to an existing video that has the same tone and pace that the client would like to be referenced for the recording.
Also, when overdubbing, it is important that Audacity and the audio you are playing and the playback device and the recording device are all running at the same sample rate.
(1) You can see Audacity’s rate at the lower left-hand corner of the Audacity window.
(2) The audio rate is shown on the track. To change it, Tracks > Resample
(3) The playback device rate is shown by typing in “mmsys.cpl” in the Windows search bar (magnifying glass), then clicking on the Playback tab, selecting your device, then Properties, then Advanced, then Default Format.
(4) The recording device rate is similar, but use the Recording tab.
