Does it give you an error message? On my machine if I try to drag and drop an .aup file, I get the message "C:\....aup" is an Audacity Project file. Use the 'File > Open' command to open the Audacity Projects.

If this happened to me I would try (1) rebooting my PC and/or (2) resetting my Audacity 'Tools > Reset Configuration', and/or renaming the 'AppData\Roaming\audacity directory; probably in that order.

I hope this helps. :D
