Stay_safe.

Are you able to record from anything else (for example, from your laptop microphone)?

yes, that was long time ago …
using microphone to record my own voice …

this time i am trying to record sound from Laptop speaker .
( sound generated by "read aloud " from a Word document )

Check to see if you are still able to do that. If you can then that helps to narrow down the possible causes of the problem.

As i had mentioned at the beginning , i am unable to record ,everytime i tried to record, that error message popped out …
cant do any recording at all , where ever the input source is from.

:frowning:

With all due respect, that is not what you said at the beginning. You said that you were unable to record sound generated from MS word “Read out loud”.

I asked you if you were able to record from anything else (such as a microphone) and you said “yes, that was long time ago … using microphone to record my own voice …”, but now say that you can’t record from any source. Which is it - can you record from a mic (“now”, not just “years ago”), or can you not record from a microphone? I’m guessing that it is “no, I now get the same error message when I try to record from a mic.” - please confirm or clarify the actual situation.

Typing bigger does not help us to help you, it just comes across as “shouting”. If you want us to help you to troubleshoot your problem, then you need to work with us because we cannot see your computer and cannot test things remotely.

Sorry if that big font meant that to you …

ok

Put in another phrase …
when i tapped on the recording button … that message popped out … can’t do any recording at all …

there must be something i setted wrongly, and i cant recall what was that …
if my audacity can be reset to default set up, it should solve the problem.
by re-installing the audacity doesn’t helps. which by logic, it should.

Wrong logic I’m afraid.

Re-installing just replaces the executable.

The settings are held in a separate folder (this is so that when you upgrade Audacity to a new version you don’t lose all your settings).

There is a command in the app to reset Tools > Reset Configuration

See this page in the Manual: Reset Configuration - Audacity Manual

Peter.

Dear Sir, i tried to reset my audacity using the below quoted command. It doesn’t help also.

In Audacity use Tools > Reset Configuration to reset your Audacity configuration: preferences, export settings and toolbars to default settings. (Macros, plug-ins and saved user settings in Effects, Generators and analyzers are not affected).

i still get this.

Open the Windows Sound control panel, and in the “Recording” tab ensure that the microphone shows activity in its green recording level meter when you speak.

Thank You Sir…
The Error message box is gone…
Yes, had tried, now i can do recording of my voice.

Next i will have to try record sound generated from Word document with Read aloud function.

Thank you very very very much Sir.
i really appreciated it.

.

I have the same problem.
I don’t think the problem lies within Audacity. I my case it appears to be something in windows 10 “SOUNDS”
windows 10 ver 1909 build 18363.1256
AMD CPU

Trying to “record what I hear” and, sometimes using wireless headphone.
Using audacity - Version (I think was 2.3.1) o.k. recording. Then began not recording. (Streaming from internet for later listening)
Up gr to 2.4.2, same thing,
Up gr to 3.0.2 same thing, so I uninstalled Audacity, cleaned up registry, deleted audacity folder in C:\ programs. Then restarted.
Installed ver. 3.0.0 you guessed it, same thing!

In the process of doing all this, and changing some windows sound settings it was possible to get recording to work, but it did not last.
Does anyone know what windows settings should be on or off?

Possibly not. If you had the same problem, then it could be corrected by

Go to “Settings > Privacy > Microphone” and ensure “Allow apps to access your microphone” is set to “On.

If you think your problem might be slightly different, lets try something else.

Bluetooth headphones are going to cause nothing but problems. Take them out of the loop.

If you are still experiencing difficulties after removing the bluetooth headphones, please describe exactly what you are doing.
