I have linked Audacity to my Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen interface and microphone and selected the correct options for the input and output but when I record there is no sound-just a flat line
I have windows 10 and audacity 2.4.2 downloaded
any help would be appreciated ( in very simple language please!)

Are the LED indicators on the Scarlett showing a signal? If you shout into the mic with the gain turned-up do the indicators turn red?
If you plug headphones into the interface and select direct-monitor are you hearing anything?

You selected the Scarlett (or something that says "USB") as yourand selected the correct options for the input and output

Yes the LED lights are showing and if I shout with the gain turned up the gain indicator turns red
headphones dont seem to make much difference - I can hear with or without them (they came with the Scarlett package)

yes I selected Scarlett as my recording device
