Help with connecting Soundlab GO56C via USB

Hi folks,

Am trying to connect a Soundlab GO56C to my laptop via USB. Laptop is a Sony Vaio running windows 7. I normally use 'phono input' via an old PC but thought I'd try connecting the deck to my laptop to be able to capture via that as it's more convenient.

Anyway, have connected turntable to laptop and powered on. Driver HAS installed and I see USB Audio Codec in device manager.

Open up Audacity 2.4.2 and go to Edit > Preferences however I only have the following options available in recording devices:

Microphone Realtec High def
Microsoft Sound Mapper
Microphone (USB Audio Codec)

Have tried the 'Microphone (USB Audio Codec)' but the sound is mono and the level is way too high (even when recording level is set to minimum it's distorted)

I'm guessing I should be able to see an option which is just "USB Audio Codec" but I don't have this? I know this laptop has no line in (just microphone and headphone jacks) which is why I'm going the USB way.

Any clues? Is it not possible with this laptop without buying something else?

"USB Audio Codec" is probably the correct choice.

You probably need to change some default settings in the Windows Sound control panel.

Open the control panel:

1. open the run dialog with Windows logo + R
2. enter: mmsys.cpl
3. press the OK button

Find the device in the "Recording" tab.
If I remember correctly, the settings that you need are under "Properties"

Ensure that the device is set to record "2 channels (stereo)", sample rate 44100 (or 48000 if 44100 is not available), and ensure that there is no "boost" applied. You may also need to adjust the recording level here.

By the way, neither Audacity or Microsoft officially support Windows 7 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 66d9a53962)

Thanks Steve, very much appreciated. I was able to change it from 1 channel to 2 using your guidance so it's now recording in stereo and after a tweak of the levels in both sound mixer properties and audacity have managed to eliminate any distortion.
