Audacity not recognising soundcards

Please state which version of Windows you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Help menu > About Audacity".
Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.

I believe you are going to find that the Steinberg software * requires * ASIO to use more than two channels and the current "public" release of Audacity does * not * support ASIO. So you have two options:
1) Use different software that does support ASIO. For example, Reaper , Cakewalk , Studio One, Ableton Live, Cubase, etc.
2) Build your own "private" version of Audacity that * does * support ASIO: See here:viewtopic.php? t = 112082 & start = 10 # p410225
