Can we freeze the rest section of a track while edit its front section?

I’m using Windows version 2.4.2. Can we freeze the rest section of a track while edit its front section?

For example, suppose a track is 5 min long. While I edit and delete fractions in 0-2min section of the track, can I freeze the rest section of the track in 2-5min? So no matter how much I delete from 0-2min, the rest section will not move and remain in the same place in 2-5min. This will require Audacity automatically add silence before 2min while I delete fractions in 0-2min section.

Thanks & regards,
Lee

I believe that you could use Punch/Copy/Paste in the first part of the track to do your deleting after you copy silence to the clipboard.

  1. “Tracks menu > Add New > Mono / Stereo Track” (mono or stereo to match your existing track.
  2. Click on the first track at a suitable point after 2min.
  3. “Shift + k” (select to end of track)
  4. “Ctrl + X” (cut)
  5. Enter (deselect the current track)
  6. Down cursor (move focus down to the new track)
  7. “Ctrl + V” (paste)

You can now edit the first track without affecting the second track.
On export, the tracks will be mixed to create a single file.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Much appreciate. I tried the steps. It gives me exactly what I was looking for. Like this little trick
