Presonus AudioBox USB 96 not recording with Audacity

Audacity monitors and records only silence, when my Presonus Audiobox USB 96 is selected in the settings as input and output device, though playing back audio with it through Audacity is fine. With all other programs, the Audio Interface works without any problem. I'm running a Windows 10 Lenovo Thinkpad E480 with 8GB Ram. Any ideas how to get it recording with Audacity?

As an interesting side fact, every signal coming over the audio inputs of my Presonus Audiobox 96 can be heard through the interface, even in Audacity. Audacity's monitoring bar just shows no level.

You may have to give permission for Audacity to use the "microphone".

Hi Steve, thanks for the feedback. This is not the case, I checked the privacy settings. Apps aregenerally allowed to use microphone. Further, Audacity and Skype are in this part of settings from microphone restricion excluded. When I select the internal "Conexant Smart Audio" as Microphone, Audacity records the sourrounding (me typing, talking or hitting keys) via the internal Microphone of my laptop. It just does not work with the Audiobox as Input.

Skype

Ensure that Skype is not running when you test Audacity, not even in the background. Skype likes to grab exclusive control of the sound system, preventing other applications from using it.

Skype is not running in the background. I double checked with the task manager. Only Audacity is running.

What do you mean "even in Audacity"? How do you know that Audacity can "hear" audio coming through the interface?

You are right, I explained that not right. When turn the MixerKnob on my Audiobox between inputs and playback, I can hear what comes into the inputs, but playback stays very quiet. Has nothing do with Audacity itself.

Now the good news: I found the solution (although not really a reason why this had happened). In the system settings, Audiobox 96 is listed as the input and output device, with no problem or conflict showing up. I clicked on the "solve problem" under the Audiobox input field, and the computer went some time into processing. Then he suddenly asked me: Does a problem exist with Audiobox 96? I clicked "yes", and after further processing time, it finally showed a box saying "Audiobox unmuted. Problem solved." Well, in absolutely no settings I had muted the Interface, not in the Audiobox GUI, nor in my sound settings, nor anywhere else, but somehow my laptop was thinking so.

Now Audacity is recording with Audiobox as well.
