since a restore of my windows 8.1 system, My audacity 2.1.2 won't work the same. I can't delete. I can highlight an area but it becomes a grey background not white. I can't synch up two tracks.
Is there a setting causing this? compatability issue?

Re: Do I have a compatability problem
We can only offer limited support for Windows 8.1 (Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 8.1 on January 9, 2018), but the current Audacity 2.4.2 is believed to work on Windows 8.1 provided that Windows 8.1 is fully updated. You can get Audacity 2.4.2 via the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/
I would recommend uninstalling your current version, then install the "Audacity 2.4.2 installer" version, and enable the option to "Reset Preferences" during the installation.
