instruments work/Mic's wont. Zoom R 16/24

Post by topnorm » Thu Oct 29, 2020 8:41 pm

Long time listener first time caller. I searched this topic and didn't find it so If I missed it somewhere my apologies.
Windows 10.. Zoom R24. Condenser Mic. Line in instruments.

I have used audacity by adding my files and works great. Problem: I recently found out that the Zoom R24 can be used as an interface to/with Audacity So I wanted to try it and I downloaded drivers, Audacity recognizes the R24 and I can record and monitor instruments from key boards to bass ..no problem. but the microphones on board the zoom will not show in Audacity. SO I plugged in two different Mic's and they show on the R24 and I can hear them in the "phones out" on the zoom, they will record on the card but not as an interface on Audacity while the instruments work fine. but they do not show up in monitor , or record in audacity.
any suggestions?

MME drivers work fine for simple stereo recording and playback, and are available on all versions of Windows where Audacity will run. However, neither these nor most WDM drivers will provide multi-channel recording; if you try to send multiple inputs to Audacity with these, you will only be presented with a series of separate two-channel "recording devices" from which one can be chosen, instead of the number of input channels there actually are.

Thank you

I am not sure I understand , are you saying that the system wont allow more than one track ( item being recorded ) at a time?

Just to be sure I am stating it correctly; I am only inputting one item at a time. I can add in several different instruments and same one over again, one at a time. Each one starting a new track just fine. Volume and play back volume are working.
Just Mic not working. the onboard ones in the R24 or add on mics, into the channel also one at a time. However now I am thinking: they are on different channels then the Channel #1 I plug in and remove each instrument from.

So perhaps with what you are saying I need to put mic into channel one instead of a different channel while muting channel one.
I will try to use a dynamic mic into channel one see if this is what you mean.

I can use my web cam mic I found out by accident I saw a monitor and thought I had it, I did not!

does this make sense?
