Cassette tape convert - not working
Hi,
I posted something 7-8 years ago and got some good response. I wouldn't say this is a complete re-post though. I finally got around to doing some of this stuff, and ran into some problems. Plus, wanted to know if anything changed.
I have some old cassette tapes (and reel to reel tapes) that I want to convert to computer. The tapes are old and the quality is not always that great. A lot of stuff I taped off the TV in the 70's and 80's by holding a mic up to the speaker. I thought that using a small compact cassette deck with less power would work best since maybe it would bring out less bass and less of that "brrr" sound that the tapes have. Hard to explain, but if you have old cassette tapes like this, you know what I mean.
You guys suggested using my stereo that has a double tape deck connected to a receiver instead. I use this to record vinyl to computer and it works great! Again from your suggestions, so thanks for it all!
I have a Yamnaha RX-V595 and also the Behringer U-Phono UFO202, Windows 10, and audacity 2.3.3
I was trying to compare all the methods to hear what the difference would be. I tried the ear out from a small cassette player to the mic in on the computer and recorded with audacity. I couldn't hear what I was recording. It came out so-so.
Next I tried to hook the Cassette player up to the behringer. I am not sure I used the right connection, I am going to try to attached a photo of it. Same thing - couldn't hear it and results were not that great.
Then I tried to record from my stereo with the behringer and Yamaha. Nothing recorded. I tried a few different things, but nothing. I did it the same way that works for vinyl. The setup is turntable to receiver, CD player to receiver, dual cassette deck to receiver and cassette out from receiver back in to cassette deck. Instead of putting the received out back in to the cassette deck, I put it in the behringer. It's probably something simple that I am missing. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
RR.

Hi,
Thanks for the response. What are you using to record on your computer? Is the Hitachi a small compact cassette or a stereo deck attached to a receiver? I am using Windows.
Thanks again.

Re: Cassette tape convert - not working
Can you hear the tape if you plug your headphones into the UFO202 when recording?

Re: Cassette tape convert - not working
Hi Steve,
Are you talking about using the compact cassette player? No, I do not hear the tape.
With my stereo, I do hear the tape when I plug the red and white from the cassette deck to the Behringer. The same thing that works for recording vinyl through my stereo.
Thanks.

Re: Cassette tape convert - not working
No, I have not. I had to put it aside. Trying to get back into it. Thanks for the tip. I will try with headphones to see if anything is getting to The Behringer.
Thanks again!
