Re: Unsuccessful download
Assuming that you are following the links from the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/
That will take you to the FossHub page: https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html
You then need to left click on the text link: "Audacity Windows Installer".
If you normally use a "download manager", disable it before trying to download.

Re: Unsuccessful download
To confirm, the first time we hear about this, we don't have any such error message "Code 5". What happens when you click on this download link?
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html?d ... -2.4.2.exe
Depending on your browser, the download should start automatically or prompt you to save the file.

Re: Unsuccessful download
I have no problem with the download until I reach the "Install" step of the set-up. I then receive the following:
Error writing to registry key:
HKEY¬_CLASSES_ROOT\Audacity.Project\shell\open\command
RegSetValueEx failed; code 5.
I am then given three options - Abort, Retry, Ignore

Re: Unsuccessful Installation
OK, so this is about "installation" rather than "download". I'll update the topic title accordingly.haddond wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:55 pmI have no problem with the download until I reach the "Install" step of the set-up. I then receive the following:

Probably it's your computer security blocking the installation. Are you the administrator of the computer?

Thank you for that. Yes. I am the administrator.
Re: Unsuccessful installation
Did you download Audacity via the Audacity website?
If so, check the validity of the installer as described here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/o ... /#validate

Re: Unsuccessful installation
Matches with audacity-win-2.4.2.exe
Re: Unsuccessful installation
Good.
For your peace of mind, you may also want to test the download on VirusTotal before the next step.
Try temporarily disabling any 3rd party security products that are running on your computer, then attempt to install again.
(Don't forget to re-enable them after).

Re: Unsuccessful installation [SOLVED]
Thank you. Unfortunately my level of experience in these areas is VERY limited (thank goodness for Google!). However, after much trial and error, I disabled my "Hitman" and Audacity installed with no problem. I am now happily saving my beloved LP's on my HD. Thank you again.
