I am new to Audacity and have version2.3.1 on my windows 10 desk top. I have created a wav file of a backing cd and imported it into Audacity. I now want to record on top of this ( I am a woodwind player ) but it doesn't work. I have enabled mic in my privacy settings and use a basic pro sound 1 dynamic mic. Help!

The current version is 2.3.3, which you can get via the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/
There will be a new release next month.

In what way does it not work?

It just does not record, as if there is no signal from the mic. The green signals appear to suggest it is recording but here is nothing on playback and the recording signal bar show nothing is happening.

What "green signals"? Are you referring to the recording meter? https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/met ... #recording
If so, what level is it showing?

Is it producing a flat line recording?

No, no timeline movement, counter remains at 0. The timer was working. This went on for about 10 minutes on the Timer before I stopped it. I immediately restarted it and it worked as expected. Both sessions were preset to a specific time/date.

I cannot even check my version due to the data lockout created by the timer. It is another vote to get rid of the lock out. I do know it is the latest and greatest or slightly less than that.
