Update Failure

Post by Nevv » Mon Jan 13, 2020 1:56 am

Why can't I update my 1.3 Audacity... When I try, I get a message "Setup was unable to create a directory" "Error 5: Access is denied".

  1. Completely remove your current version of Audacity (uninstall, then delete the Audacity folder from the Programs directory).
  2. Download Audacity 2.3.3 by following the links on the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/
You need the "Audacity 2.3.3 installer"
  3. Run the installer and enter your admin password when prompted.
Watch out for the option to "Reset Preferences" and ensure that option is selected.
  4. On first run, confirm that you wish to reset Preferences.

Audacity is uninstalled. How do I go about finding the Audacity folder from the Programs directory? Where is the program directory?

You do know, I hope, that today 14Jan2020 is the day that Microsft stops support for Windows 7 and declares EOL

See: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/hel ... ry-14-2020

As far as we know the latest Audacity (2.3.3) still runs on Windows 7 - but we no longer support it on that OS version,

This reminds me when I erased a "Temp" folder, when it was automatically created back, it was with a different permissions setting; I had to manually readjust those settings to be able to install and uninstall some programs.
