But I do like the idea of a right-click context menu for the Record button where the context menu offers the choice between "Append Record" and "Record on a new Track".

Right-click on Record button activates recording

Thanks Everybody! You are the Best! :)

IMO, many time when one finally presses Rec, the adrenaline
is pumping  and time is compressing, so "intuitive" here gets
extra points. Also; ease and speed.

To me, the default of pressing The Red Button seems like it should be
to record into the current or highlighted track, not (jumping out and)
creating a new track.

Also, popping out of a live-Record causes IRRETRIEVABLE LOSS!!
One could imagine a job failure over that.
I think extra accident-prevention here would be more than cool.
So to me, possible keyboard/mouse accidents here should be
brutally minimized or eliminated.
(Spacebar for Start-Stop seems more appropriate for viewers and players.)
To me, RECORD and PLAY should not even be in the same room.

Thanks again! :D

That is the default in the current (2.3.3) version of Audacity.

I've long thought that. I (and fellow Forum-elf BillW) argued for only the Stop button to be able to stop recording and not the space bar - but we lost that argument a long time ago.

I could try again if you want - but I may well lose again

I can try to be the "Saint of lost causes" ...
