Any way to save a custom layout? i.e. which toolbars show upon opening?

When stacking multiple windows side by side, the default view looks like:

but it would be not as convoluted with no toolbars showing:

Yet, it doesn't keep your selections when you open another window, it defaults back to showing the toolbars from the first pic. Any way around that?

If you launch Audacity (one and only one Audacity window), set the window size and toolbar layout as you want it, then close Audacity, the window size and layout should be remembered the next time you launch Audacity.

Having said that, why do you need to have 9 windows open at the same time? Audacity is a multi-track audio editor, and in nearly all cases only one window needs to open at a time. It looks like you have adopted a seriously non-optimal workflow.

actually I just noticed it saved after I closed it this time. Last time it didn't, not sure why... and well, I never really thought about doing multiple projects in 1 window, it just seemed normal, yet tedious, to do batch 'projects' manually, window to window. Seems like it would be faster when you click window to window rather than having to scroll down in 1 window, but I'm known to do things the long/hard way ha.. Basically I'm taking my albums I mp3'd back in 2003, saving them as a .wav, then doing a low and high pass filter which will give me some headroom to edit, or something, and then saving that as another .wav file. So I end up with the original copy I had, and the new one which I edit and compare to the original soundwise:

I've just been used to this way, but I can try it all in 1 instance and see how it feels for me

Oh, no, I just tried it and the part where I duplicate the tracks is where things would get complicated when doing multiple files..

It'll only save the layout when the last window is closed. Perhaps you had a window behind the other windows that didn't have the new layout (?). I'm just guessing and we will probably never know what actually happened ;)

If you describe in detail, what you are trying to do, we may be able to suggest a better workflow.

Well, basically I'm prepping audio files to give me some headroom so I can do more editing in FL Studio. I convert my file to .wav if needed, close, re-open, duplicate, run a low-pass and hi-pass filter (I assume that's what they are) that I made at 80hz and roughly -6dB, mix and render, and output to the same .wav file, so now I have a copy of the original, and a copy of the new one. After that I open up FL Studio and do my editing.

If you want to apply the same effects to a load of files, then the best way is to "batch process" with a Macro.
You can find out more about Macros here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/macros.html

A good tip for finding things in the manual:
Go to the manual's index page (https://manual.audacityteam.org/), and use your web browser's search function (usually "Ctrl + F").

Example: Try searching the index page for the word "batch" and you will find it.
