Overwrite recording

Post by sark » Tue Mar 05, 2019 11:30 am

Is it possible to change a setting in options to enable audacity to record from the cursor position within a track. Effectively overwriting anything in front of the cursor. The default is to always record at the end of the current recording within a track.

Thanks in Advance.

You can do that with "Punch and Roll": https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/pun ... ecord.html

Alternatively, if you don't want the "pre-roll" behaviour, you can just:

1) Click on the track where you want the recording to start
2) "Shift + K" (select to end of the track)
3) "Del" (delete the selection)
4) "R", or click the Record button.

Thanks for that. I come from using an old version od Audition that just records from any cursor point I knew something similar should be possible with Audacity, just didn't know what to look for. Punch & Roll looks perfect.

Thanks Again
