[Ws10 Au 2.3.0] How to split a long file that has a defined audio delimiter between sections

Post by Clemens » Mon Dec 24, 2018 2:15 pm

Hello,

I am a beginner in audacity so please forgive me in advance for any lack of clarity or understanding.
I have only used Audacity just a few times for very simple tasks. I'm on Windows 10, using Audacity 2.3.0.

I have a long audio file that I would like to split into small clips, in an automated way as much as possible.
The file has a bell sound (always exactly the same, that was added digitally, I suppose) at the end of each section that I would like to make a clip of.
I was wondering if there was an "easy" way to use this bell sound as a delimiter to divide the file and extract the clips.
The best would be if the bell sound itself gets cut out or if it is exported as individual "additional" clips that i could then discard.

Thank you,
Clemens

Audacity can't detect specific sounds, but it can detect the difference between sound and silence using either "Silence Finder" (see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/silence_finder.html). If you are able to label the sections based on silences within the track, then you can export each marked section using "Export Multiple" (see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/exp ... tiple.html)

Thank you for the reply.
I was also wondering if there was a way so that I could mark the file while listening pressing a button and then export based on those marks.

Thank you,
Clemens

Yes, you can add labels (markers) while playing by pressing "Ctrl + M" and then press "Enter".

For more information about labels, see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/label_tracks.html

The bell may be visually recognizable on the spectrogram-view , (rather than the default waveform-view)
