I Really Need Help Fixing My Audacity Recording

Post by Pikamon101 » Wed Dec 19, 2018 8:53 pm

Hi! :)

I recently bought a used Audio Technica AT202USB Mic and I haven't really used a Microphone before so I'm still trying out new recording styles and stuff.

Anyways, I recorded some commentary for my new YouTube video but it sounds horrible. I usually don't ask people to fix stuff for me because I don't want to waste peoples time and I tried fixing the recording myself but I'm kind of a Noob to Audacity and Microphones.

I would sincerely appreciate it if somebody could fix this recording and make it sound more clear and level the volume. : )

Thank you, have a great day and God bless!

We help people all the time, but you do have to send us a sound file. An AUP is an Audacity Project Management text file.

Hi! :) I'm so sorry about that! I thought an AUP File would be more useful but here's the MP3 File! :)
I really appreciate it!
Merry Christmas!

That doesn't sound like raw recording : some processing has been applied, e.g. frequencies above 4kHz have been attenuated.
If you didn't deliberately do that processing, have a look in Windows sound and disable all enhancements, in both the recording & playback tabs.

Applying this equalization "curve" improves that processed recording ...

At times you're moving out of the mic's sensitivity zone.
AT2020 has a cardioid, not omini-directional, sensitivity pattern,
i.e. There is a right way to position the AT2020 , (and many wrong ways).

Hi! :) Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately I imported the Rugrats.xml file on the Equalization Tab on Audacity and it didn't really fix anything...

Also the problem was I was reading my script and I kept moving left and right so I could read it and I made the mistake of putting my Microphone on my left side.

Is there a way to fix the recording or should I just re-record the whole entire thing?

Merry Christmas and have a great day and God bless!

The rugrats equalization just boosts the frequencies above 4kHz , which were low IMO.
If you want to reduce the volume-variation try the LevelSpeech2.NY plugin on default-settings ...

There is no post-production fix for turning your head away from the mic : that changes the volume & frequency content. The AT2020 has a front & a back. In future make sure the front is facing you square-on.
otherwise moving your head slightly could cause big changes in the volume.

BTW if you're using noise-reduction, use the least amount, as it does damage the speech.
