Unwanted loud noise during playback

I have been using Audacity since 2013 to successfully edit my piano recordings (to make CDs for sale). Recently I have changed from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Unfortunately I often experience unwanted very loud (static?) noise at the beginning of a section of my recording during playback (sometimes some random loud noises appear throughout the section). This never happened in Windows 7, and there is no such noise in the original recording. All the hardware has been unchanged. Changing the USB cable did not help. I use nuForce uDAC-3 to convert USB to Coaxial, which is fed to Schiit MODI 2 UBER DAC. It appears that this is a sort of compatibility issue between Audacity 2.3.0 and Windows 10 64-bit. Please advice on how to fix.

If applicable, would you advice on the correct settings: currently I have:
Devices: Buffer length: 100 msec, Latency compensation -130 msec;
Playback: Length 6, 2, 1, 1, 15 Both “Vari—” and "Always scrub… " are checked.
I do not remember the settings in Windows 7.
Audacity: 2.3.0
Computer: Acer TC885-UR14
WINDOWS 10 64 bit
Recording device: TASCAM (TEAC) CD-RW900SL

Could try other (free) software to see if your recording problem is specific to Audacity.
