recording without room ambiance

How can I record audio (say the audio track of a Youtube video) without getting the room ambience picked up by the computer's built-in mic? Is Audacity recording directly from the track that is playing or is it recording via the mic which is picking up the sound from the built-in speaker? In an earlier version of Audacity or perhaps an earlier version of Windows, I didn't have this problem. I am using Audacity 2.1.3 with Windows 10. Could you send a copy of your answer to my email bobATbossinDOTcom? Thanks. bb

That would be no. This isn't a help desk. It's a forum with volunteers and users helping each other. Also, we try to keep discussions on the forum so many people can benefit from the work.

You can configure Audacity to record the computer-output only, (not the microphone),

Worked! Not only that I think I can navigate the forum. Well a little anyway. Thanks, Koz et al.
