Re: Tried everything Error code
Yeah of course i have a desktop computer. It is an HP Pavillion and I use the usb or micro jack headphones with it.
Re: Tried everything Error code
OK, so let's try and get "something" working:
In the device toolbar, set the "host" to MME, the recording input to your microphone, and the playback to your headphones, and try to make a test recording.
If it doesn't work straight away, just get the "Audio device info" again, and post it with your reply. Resist the urge to fiddle too much because at this stage it should be either correct, or very nearly correct.
- Shut down your computer
- Disconnect all USB audio devices (headsets / mics / webcams / headphones / ...)
- Plug in your mic and headphones (the ones with mini-jacks).
- Note that some computers have color-coded inputs:
- Pink = microphone
- Light blue = line level audio
- Lime = audio out
Some use symbols (which are sometimes difficult to read). Ensure that your mic is connected to the "mic" input, and headphones to the audio out.
- Restart the computer
- Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar.
- Select Open sound settings.
- Choose Sound control panel on the right.
- Select the Recording tab.
- Choose the microphone.
- Open the Properties window.
- Select the Levels tab.
- Adjust the volume so that you see the green meter in the Recording tab moving in response to your voice
- When that is working, click "OK" to everything to get out of the Control Panel
- Test your headphones by playing some audio in your favourite media player.

Re: Tried everything Error code
I have a HP desktop computer and yes I have head phones that plug into the mini jack
Re: Tried everything Error code
How about #5 above? Does Windows "see" the microphone input? Does it see a signal?
Have you tried recording form the microphone built into your USB headset?
Have you tried recording from line-in on your soundcard? You can plug-in from the headset jack on your phone, or from a CD/DVD player, or the audio from your TV, etc.
Do you have access to another computer that you can use to test the microphone?
You may have a bad driver, a bad soundcard, or a bad microphone. And, you generally don't know until it's fixed.
You may want to buy a cheap USB soundcard to test the microphone or you could buy another cheap analog microphone, so you can narrow-down the problem. I have a USB soundcard that I just use for "troubleshooting purposes".
...Or before you buy anymore equipment, maybe we should talk about why you want to use the desktop microphone instead of the headset microphone. i.e. If you are trying to make an audio book or a podcast you'll probably want a different/better setup.

It's also possible that your telephone software is "taking over" your computer and interfering with Audacity.I have a USB gaming headset for work as I work from home answering phones

Received -9999 while opening devicesI will look into a uSB sound card as I know the microphone works well. I am going to be recording audio books which is why I got a mini Jack microphone. It could be that the telephone software is taking over that is a very likely thing. The computer sees the microphone and the sound plays through the headphones
