Suddenly Won't Recognize Microphone

Hello and HELP!

I am using Windows 10, and Audacity v 2.1.0 (although the issue started when I was using v 2.0.5). My microphone is a Neuman TLM49 running through a Babyface Pro. This setup has worked great for me for several years now, but this morning, after running my registry cleaner, Audacity will no longer recognize my microphone! Specifically, it when I click the record button it says “Error while opening sound device. Please check the recording device settings and the project sample rate.”

I had not changed any of the settings. The project rate is still set at 44100 Hz, using MME, doesn’t seem to matter what I pick for playback because I always hear it through my headphones regardless of the settings. There are numerous input options, even though I only have one mic. It had been set on Analog (3+4)(RME Babyface Pro) on 1 (Mono). Now, it doesn’t matter what combination of settings I choose, Audacity just won’t recognize the mic. I was using v 2.0.5 which I prefer over the newest version, but I installed v 2.1.0 in case that made a difference. It did not.

Not sure what to do at this point. Didn’t change the Babyface Pro drivers, so what do I do now?

The current version of Audacity is 2.2.2 and a new version (2.3.0) is due to be released very soon. You should keep your software up to date.
The latest version of Audacity is available via the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/
