audacity-win-2.2.2.exe download is only 253 KB

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Go to
https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

Notice the following:
Audacity 2.2.2 installer (19.31 MB, includes help files)

I left-click the text link to start the download.

The download is named “audacity-win-2.2.2.exe”.
It is only 253 KB.
Something is really wrong.
Did someone hack the web site?

Thank you for the feedback.

I’ve just checked the file and it is fine.
The SHA-256 is ca19471e10660765dec12c980ebd3eeb9b82826ea4f25bc490936f312b14caff
and the file size is 20248056 bytes.

Try clearing your web browser cache and download it again.

Thank you for your help.

I found the problem.

Go to
https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

Above Audacity 2.2.2 installer (19.31 MB, includes help files), it says
“Left-click the text link to start the download. Right-click and “Save as…” will not work.”

Ugh, I messed up and did not follow instructions correctly since I use a left handed mouse so forgot everything is reversed.

What happens is that “Save as…” downloads a file named “audacity-win-2.2.2.exe” which is only 253 KB size. Unclear why this file is downloaded.

VirusTotal says that it has a JavaScript (JS) virus of some sort.

Bkav JS.eIframeDwNMe.1D87
I cannot find any information about JS.eIframeDwNMe.1D87.

When I “Left-click (right-click with left handed mouse) the text link to start the download.”, it downloads the correct sized file with correct SHA256.

The single detection on VirusTotal is what’s known as a “False Positive”. It’s nothing to be concerned about.

Due to the “leech protection” on the FossHub site, if you right click, the file that downloads is the web page rather than the file.
