It doesn't, and what's worse, it retains the default setting even if the plug-in is removed (either via the Plug-in manager, or physically removed).
A possible fix might be to unset the "initialized" token when a plug-in is removed, or 'missing'. This could allow the last used and custom presets to be retained in case the plug-in is added back later, but would force the defaults to be reinitialised. I've not yet worked out how to do that, but I'd say it's a 'bug'.
That seems like it could be a good solution. Given we store settings, it would seem unwise to default-discard them if the plugin is removed.
Plug-in Manager has no way to actually remove plugins, only to disable them, retaining their entry in pluginregistry.cfg. Possibly a "Remove" button could be considered with a Yes/No dialogue and a checkbox "Also delete plugin settings".

Hi All, Not sure if Paul L or MichloIW are still around, but I'm new to Audacity & in need of the De-Esser plugin. I downloaded the two links at the end of Paul L's post but when I try and open them I get this popup. When I go to "choose application" Audacity isn't even a choice. I have the same issue following the DeClicker plugin as well. Any advice? I am on a MacBook Pro with MacOS Sierra 10.12.6

Hi, I am looking for help using De-esser with Audacity (2.1.3).
The reason is that I am beginning a podcast and have a lisp where I emphasise the 'S'.
I am not very tech-savvy so please can you reply in layman's terms!
I believe I have attempted everything correctly and received the below message...
My current make and model of Mac is below...
Please let me know if you require anymore information and I thank you in advance for any assistance. I'll check back for any replies.

Hi,
I did exactly this "To install new Nyquist plug-ins, place them in Audacity's "Plug-Ins" folder at ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins." and placed it in this folder. I then click the DeEsser.ny file and get the first image pop up...
Apologies if i'm missing something glaringly obvious but I'm completely lost here!

Once you place the file in the Plugins folder, close everything back out to the application. Don't try to launch it.
In Audacity, Effects > Add/Remove Plugins. You should be able to find it and activate it. I've been known to select them all and install everything.
From there, open your show and apply it.

Sorry very frustrated - I can't get the De-Esser to show up under plugins. I followed the links you posted above about how to install .ny plugins - when I navigated to Library/Application Support/audacity there was no Plug-Ins folder at all.
I wound up copy pasting the De-Ess and De-Click .ny files into that folder and then tried all the folders under library/audio/Plug-Ins as well - no luck.
Ultimately I got so desperate I created the Plug-Ins folder under library/application support/audacity with no luck.
Any advice from anyone? Would really appreciate it.
