When I record from etc. Youtube or other sites I recieve a metallic and ugly sound with low dynamic.
Futhermore the stereo channels seems to move together and the width of the stereo is minimal.
I have tried to change the sample frekvense and the bitrate but the problem with the sound is still there. I have also tried with an external sound card but then the program is not running.

Why?
Are there something I have missed ?

Please read the pink panel at the top of this page. What version of Windows, Mac or Linux? What version of Audacity (all three numbers)?

You have not said how you are recording YouTube. Take a look at Tutorial - Recording audio playing on the computer - Audacity Manual and look at the instructions for your particular operating system.

If you were recording from a cable into the microphone port you will receive all the symptoms you describe.

If you attach an external sound card to the computer while Audacity is running, you must restart Audacity.

We assume of course that you have the copyright holders' permission to record from YouTube. If you have permission, then be aware that there are methods to download the video using tools added to your web browser or by visiting certain sites. If you do that you will acquire the video and audio in the same quality it is being streamed at without any further losses. Use your favourite search engine to find out how.
