Effects to sound like Bane in The Dark Knight Rises?

I'm a reasonable dab hand at doing Bartley Gorman (the inspiration for Tom Hardy's pre-processing Bane voice in TDKR, see here). I can get about 90% of the way with the old tin-can-with-nail-holes-in-the-bottom trick.

But there's a loudspeaker/bullhorn/crappy speaker quality to Bane in TDKR that I'm having a hard time nailing down. What would you tinker with in Audacity to try to get it right?

Ubuntu version, if it matters.

I can only guess at what you have so far, but try applying this code in the Nyquist Prompt effect:

Code: Select all

(nrev
  (mult 0.4 (sum
    (eq-band s 5000 16 2)
    (eq-band s 100 16 1)))
  0.01 0.2)

Thanks, Steve.

So far I have nothing at all – I've been seeing how far I can get with my own voice and some practical effects (hence the tin can with holes in it). I haven't played with audio software since Cool Edit Pro was in its infancy, but I know Audacity is the solution of choice for freeware recording these days.

When you've got something recorded you're welcome to post a short sample and perhaps someone will have suggestions for how to improve it.

I see what you mean about "tin can"/ "megaphone" ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GokKUqLcvD8#t=90s

It's very sibilant, re-ess* maybe ? , [ * opposite of de-ess ]
