Waxcylinder is rather keen on Brian Davies restoration software ... http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1994

I've not tried the Brian Davies software but I have tried Goldwave whose noise reduction is better than Audacity IMO.

I believe both Brian Davies and Goldwave have free trials, so you can try before you buy.

[ You may still be able to use soundsoap if you have the authorization code ... http://www.bias-inc.com/ ]
