How to make voice in the call recording more clearer?

Post by cybtese » Wed Feb 08, 2012 1:04 pm

Hi,

As a hobby project, me and my friend made a mobile phone conversation in loudspeaker mode and recorded it using another mobile. So what i speak, is recorded good and clear while what my friend speak is barely audible. And since in loudspeaker mode, there seems to be some noise also. Is there a way to improve audibilty of my friend's talk in this record using audacity?

Also , we talked simultaneously for some time. Is there a way to seperate both the sounds, or extract one from another?

When i apply noise removal, it also removes my friend's sound. So what should i do to make both voices more clearer.

Thanks in advance.

Both voices talking at once is in the same camp as trying to split apart individual instruments in a mixed song. You can't do either one.

Noise Removal is only good when there is a single sound that's steady through the whole show like fan noise or an air conditioner rumble. Unfortunately, we take the engineering view of noise, not the real-world one. A metrobus starting up outside your windows isn't noise because it's not constant through the show.

Recording a speaker is never as good as recording actual hard-wired sound. You should jockey the positions of you and the speakerphone until the two voices more or less balance. Get the recorder closer to the speakerphone and further away from you.
