Isolating dialogue from a ripped AC3 file

Hello all,

My goal is to create some stop-motion LEGO trailers of my own using dialogue from movies. I've extracted the AC3 file from the movie and now I want to separate the dialogue from the music so I can use the dialogue by itself, then I would add my own music after. Is this even possible? I realize this would make the quality suffer a bit, I don't really mind. What would be the process? Has anyone had any success with this?

What you are asking is called "vocal isolation" - it is "sort of" possible sometimes, but usually the sound quality suffers a lot.
Audacity does not have this capability built in, but there are VST effects that claim to be able to do vocal isolation (such as "ExtraBoy").

Audacity 1.3.12 has much better VST support than the old 1.2.6 version, so you should definitely use Audacity 1.3.12

None of these work on a mono music file and they all work poorly on MP3 compressed music because of the MP3 damage. This business fails much more often that it succeeds.
