Program adding unwanted silence

I've been using Audacity for years for transferring casssettes (as one large wav file) to my computer and then splitting the tracks up and exporting them as wavs. However, last week the program began tacking on a few seconds of silence onto the end of each track...really annoying since I don't want it there! I didn't change anything in settings....any idea why it decided to start doing this?

Which version of Audacity are you using? There was an Export bug in 1.3.10 which is fixed in the latest Beta 1.3.12

I'm using Audacity 1.2.6, and never had this problem until last week...

Some effects add silence when applied to a track.
If you want to get rid of the extra silence just select and hit delete.

^I know that, it's not that I don't know how to do it, it's that it's a pain in the GD ass when I have 23 tracks to split from one big WAV, because after I export them, I have to reopen EACH ONE and chop off the silence...so in essence I need to do the process twice, when I never did until last week...

If you start a new project, do you get the same problem, or is the problem with just this one project?

I know that Audacity 1.2.6 has some bugs, particularly on newer computers, and they are not going to get fixed because all development of Audacity 1.2.x has now ended, but I've no idea why the problem should suddenly appear if it was working correctly before. The only suggestion that I can think of is to try upgrading to Audacity 1.3.12 and see if that cures the problem.

Audacity 1.2 projects can be opened in Audacity 1.3.12, but once they have been saved by Audacity 1.3.12 they can not be opened again by Audacity 1.2

Despite its "beta" label, 1.3.12 is probably more stable than the old 1.2.6 version and has many useful enhancements - all of the forum regulars use it as their "production" version.
