The digital music file was created using a technique that Audacity doesn't know about. There are many different digital encoding techniques running around and they all do one thing really well at the expense of everything else.

You can convert music files between different methods using iTunes, Super, or Switch; all separate programs. Audacity likes WAV or AIFF files in 44100, 16-bit, Stereo or 48000, 16-bit, Stereo. That's the Music CD standard and Digital Television Sound standard, resp.
