NEED TO REMOVE AN UNPLEASANT INSTRUMENT FROM A KARAOKE DISC

I have exhausted myself looking thru' the forums. Can I remove, dull or lower an unpleasant cymbal beat in a Karaoke disc? I have not yet downloaded Audacity, cause I cannot find if it can do exactly what I need. Can other instruments be isolated and lowered in sound or removed completely? I am an absolute novice, so please be kind, gentle and talk in plain easy language. I wish to play the disc and burn immediatly to new disc - thus removing the yuk sounding instrument. I await a reply with bated breath. Ta!

Thanks Steve for such a prompt rely, I had read that "vocal isolation" post. However, there is no vocal on the track, just the music with a rotten cymbal beat.

Check out the links in that post - they are for more than just vocal isolation and are the only tools that we know of for getting rid of your nasty cymbal, though as inferred in that thread, those tools may or may not work with your recording.
