No, the electronic construction is pretty simple. The Production itself is pretty grand given you have to bring it in under $100 USD.

The really, really, really grown up version of this is a television newscast. They're wearing small, tie-tack microphones, sometimes hidden, sometimes not. They're wearing headphones, too. Gwen Ifill has a Telex earpiece jammed down the back of her dress and a transparent coil-tube behind her ear connected to a custom ear canal insert. Sometimes during the show you can see it if you're looking for it, and it depends on her hair.

I'm just wondering how cheaply this can be done given that it doesn't matter what it looks like.

perhaps
my image was that it was trying to be like the folks on local public access cable channels sitting in a "set" of sorts just talking (blathering?) about whatever their thing was -- only without the video which for the talk shows is useless. the photography and self defense show using karate absolutely requires the picture though.

the local cable public access controllers put a lot of hoops in the way to keep most people from NOT producing such shows.

pod/web casts give everybody a chance at least to reach an audience if they actually have one. but may not unless they can somehow advertise and make people aware of it via blogs facebook utube etc. i dont see many people randomly googling for a podcast on some obscure topic so they can listen to it.

so congratulations for having listeners at all. and do not worry about feedback. guy at work used to write an adhoc newsletter on various topics. people read it and liked it. he quit doing it cause he didn't get any feedback. lack of feedback means people are either satisfied or totally disinterested.

You're supposed to say, "People missed it and wrote in. So he started it up again because he had no idea he had that many fans."

I got pictures of both the larger box and the XLR/1/8" adapter over lunch. I'll post them when I settle again. The larger box is almost comical. It has this little puddle of electronics cowering at one end of this empty metal cavern. But it's the one with the more serious battery system.

What I'll probably do if you get that far is build one completely without the box and take a picture. Note this one has an XLR3 at the end of the cable and plugs straight into a microphone mixer. No adapter. Also, there's no power switch on this one. You turn it off by unplugging the microphone.

There was a post you make a while ago that worries me. One of your headphones plugged into the side of your Windows machine should work. More importantly, it's going to sound as good as it's ever going to sound over and above possible computer noise. If it's squeeky and breathy and sounds like an air traffic controller, that's what they're all going to sound like. You don't get Britney for $9 USD.

We chose the Labtec headsets because they sounded a lot better than the other models, had good level, and had very good noise cancellation.

Oh, and this one has the 10k resistor Brown Black Orange in addition to the traditional 2k2 Red Red Red.

That's the resistor color code and it's printed on the back of each Radio Shack resistor pack. Red is two so that's: two, two, and two zeros. 2200.

And my original design (which turned up) had a 47K resistor, not 4k7.

I could do that, but when do you need it? We're trying to push a medium size corporation into a new building. The weekend coming up will be a vague concept for me, not actual time off.

My lead time is incredibly long, you could take a couple months if you need to and I won't mind, assuming the price is rightish... Let me know what you think and what you'll charge me.

I've learned tons from everything you've written and helped out with but I've got a feeling that realistically I'm way over my head, and I don't really have the time or money to make mistakes, and it sounds like you really know what you are doing...

-edit, Goo, I found out that I'm officially a couple days past my ability to return the headsets and I'd forgotten about the dynamic headsets steve found, that may have been a better avenue to check out but oh well, if you, koz, are willing to physically help out that may work out for the best anyway...

It sounds like it, doesn't it? The company has two Academy Awards for creating illusions....

How about if Koz or myself made a strip-board schematic? (matrix-board, or whatever you call it that side of the pond)
Do you think you could build it from that?
Once you have successfully made one, it's just repetition for the others.
