Alesis Multimix-8 USB 2.0
I am new to this forum. I can only record 1 mono or 2 stereo tracks at a time. If I set preferences to 4 or 8 tracks, I get "Error while opening sound device, please check input device settings and project sample rate". The new USB 2.0 is supposed to be able to record multiple tracks simultaneously, and they claim it will work with the included Cubase LE, which I have not yet installed or tried. My goal is to run my old 4-track Fostex cassette deck through this mixer, to audacity, 4 tracks at a time. Is this a driver issue with Alesis, or setting problem on my part with Audacity? For the record it is an Alesis Multimix8 USB 2.0, I have downloaded the newest drivers from Alesis. Any help / advice would be appreciated, previously I used a Behringer uca202 with great results, just 2 tracks at a time. Thanks in advance, Winoco
Re: Alesis Multimix-8 USB 2.0
It could be a driver issue.
Some multi-channel devices use multiple (stereo) drivers to achieve multi-channel recording, but Audacity can only access one driver at a time. Hopefully this is not the case (there's nothing you can do about it if it is).
The other possibility is that for multi-channel use, you may need to use all 8 channels, even if you only need 4, in which case you will delete the 4 silent tracks after recording.

Thanks for the input, I'll give it a try, and maybe check with Alesis on the driver issue.

I'm with one of these MultiMix USB 2.0 too, I think that your problem is with the USB Port!
You need to make sure that the Port is 2.0, one advice is to don't use the frontal USBs of the computer and use the ones in the rear that are the default USBs of the Motherboard.
If you plug the USB 2.0 MultiMix in one USB 1.1 Port, it will function with only a stereo channel for recording.
