i think i found the problem reguarding the 0.5 and not being able to get a hight volume...its my new soundcard.one minare its low and then it goes higher...the soundcard
isnst consistant....the brand of the soundcard is encore and the model is enm232-6v1a...is there a standard for these soundcards?

That model number will not google.

One of the "features" of many sound cards is to automatically set level during recording. 0.5 (-6dB) is not a bad level to do that. The sound card is going to have drivers and control software. See if they let you turn "Auto" off with a control or clicky.

This isn't an Audacity problem. Audacity will not apply Effects during live capture. It's a frequently asked-for feature.
