Recording from Crown Mixer

Hello!

I am new to audio equipment but circumstances have it that I am working with a Crown Mixer IQ USM810. I have it set up in a computer (running Windows 98, connected serial to USB) in order to run the Crown IQ software. I was wondering if since it is already connected to a computer, if it would also be possible to record from this mixer into Audacity without having to run another cable to the CPU?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

It depends on how that piece of equipment works.

Does Windows recognize it as a sound card? If it does then you should be able to select it in Audacity’s Edit → Preferences → Audio I/O menu.

If it doesn’t work like a sound card then you’re probably out of luck.

Ok, Windows doesn’t recognize it as a sound card, it only recognizes the Radio Shack Serial to USB cable. Could I run a cable from one of the outputs to the sound card? What kind of cable and would the quality be bad since it is probably just a standard sound card?

Thanks so much for your help!

In that case, I’m sure you can run a few cables from the Line Outs on the Crown to your computer’s Line In. The quality will be limited to what your sound card can provide.
