recording trouble. microphone input red?

i recently sent a m-audio connectiv usb interface to a friend. she was going to record some spoken word poetry.

i live in michigan, she is in minnesota. i can't go over there try to fix this and i've done all i can over the phone.

when she tries to record the microphone input just stays red and the scroll bar just runs across the screen. i sent her instructions for setting everything up. it worked at first, it was recording.

now it isn't. i've had her delete and re-install to no avail...

maybe someone knows exactly what setting is screwed up and can help us out...

ps. she has the connectiv selected in the audio i/o section of preferences. also she is on XP.

Is she on XP with an internet connection? If everything has to go through you, this could take a while...
