newbie-trying to record and name my file
i have read about half of all the information on how to record and keep records and i must admit i must be stupid. i see nowhere where i can find simple information about how i can record. i keep getting referred back to somewhere else and that place refers me to where i started. i only want to play something. have it recorded to where i can hear it and be able to put it on an mp3. anyone have a suggestion where i can get some very simple instructions?????????????

Re: newbie-trying to record and name my file
I suggest you use 1.3.14 Beta and read one of these:
If the something is a guitar or piano or some other instrument,
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... _Recording .
If you are recording a USB turntable read this
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Reco ... turntables
If you are recording a conventional turntable read this:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... iscs_to_CD
If that does not help, please give us some information to go on:
- what operating system you are using (for example, Windows XP or Mac OS X 10.5.1)
- exactly what three-section version number of Audacity you are using (for example, 1.3.14 as found at Help > About Audacity, or Audacity > About Audacity on a Mac computer).
- what you are trying to record with what equipment.

Re: newbie-trying to record and name my file
Before we go completely nuts, what's the "something." People who say that are almost never trying to record their guitar solo. Most of them want to record YouTube or other internet sound and that could be a problem if you have Windows 7 or Vista. Also, free software has problems with MP3 because MP3 Export is licensed software -- it's not free.i only want to play something. have it recorded to where i can hear it and be able to put it on an mp3.
So please describe exactly what you're doing and on what kind of computer. You posted in a portion of the forum where we can't tell anything about you.

I assumed from "keep records" and "play" that it could be something to do with recording vinyl.
If you are recording computer playback, then you can read this one:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... e_computer .
Now you have all the "how to record" tutorials.
