Is there a way to increase vocals?

Post by Supermariostar » Mon May 26, 2008 3:45 am

I know there's a way to remove vocals on some songs, but there are a few songs I know that have low vocals and I wish I could increase them to hear them better. Is there an exact way to do that?

Sure, if you start with the multi-track studio master tapes, you can remix them down to stereo and turn up the vocal--or any other isolated track you want. Panning, Equalization, Compression all available depending on your mixdown desk.

If you start with a finished song, it's enormously harder. First step is isolating the vocals from the rest of the performance. It used to be you couldn't do this at all. Now, you can try using these two tools.

They have a lot of the shortcomings of Center Pan Removal. If the singer has echo or stereo effects added, you're dead.
