Recording on to existing track
I've been recording directly into Audacity using a Zoom h2 recorder connected via USB, it works fine but whenever I hit record a new track is created, I can't figure out how to record on to a pre-existing track. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Re: Recording on to existing track
Skey,
i dont think you can record onto an existing track. Depending on what you are trying to do you can get around it numerous ways.
If you want to record something before or after what you already have then just record in on a different track then allign it where you want with the time shift tool (top left of the tool bar, the icon looks like <->). If you want to patch something then just silence the part of track one you want to redo and record them in the correct place on the second track, If its something simple like a conversation then this should sound fine. Alternatively you can take what you recorded on the second track and cut and paste into the first track.
If your trying to "punch" in and out to fix bad vocal takes or instrument mistakes then read this post from about a week ago

good luck

Re: Recording on to existing track
thanks that was helpful. I have another query, is it possible to listen to what you have already recorded while recording in on to a new track? or do you have to record it "blind" and hope it'll sync up, or sync it up later?
Re: Recording on to existing track
"Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and select "Play other tracks while recording new one"

Re: Recording on to existing track
is there a way to record onto another track and hear the previous track at the same time without having to re-record the previous track.

Re: Recording on to existing track
In 1.3.5 you can now add on to the end of an existing track - use SHIFT+RECORD or SHIFT+Rskey wrote:I've been recording directly into Audacity using a Zoom h2 recorder connected via USB, it works fine but whenever I hit record a new track is created, I can't figure out how to record on to a pre-existing track.
