I am doing a project for school, and when i use an instrumental song, and i record over it i can't hear the song in the background, so i don't know if i am on the right pitch/tone and all that good stuff please help.

Best in Audacity 1.3.11.

Windows?

Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O > Play Tracks While Recording New Ones.

Audacity 1.3.11 gives you the ability to advance and retard the sync between playback and your real, live voice. That's called Latency. Even if you sing perfectly on the beat, it may not record like that. Play back the composite to see who's ahead.

That's another item in the Preferences Panel.
