I'm new to both this MacBook and Audacity, plus I don't know much about audio stuff. Here is my situation:
I have an old Yamaha turntable that I play through a Harman-Kardan receiver. I'm trying to record vinyl to my MacBook using Audacity and an Artcessories USB Phono Plus preamp. I've tried all sorts of combinations of cables and setups, and the best I've been able to do is record sound through the apparently built-in microphone in the MacBook, which is just recording the whole sound in the room, and not directly from the record. I have no idea what I'm doing and am getting really frustrated. My MacBook has a headphone jack, and I originally purchased an iCable, which has black/red RCA cables on one end and a 1/8" stereo end on the other side. My turntable has RCA phono out jacks. What am I doing wrong other than being a complete technological moron?

Re: Trouble recording vinyl to macbook
Have you tried reading the manual and tutorials and FAQ on the Audacity site - they are immensely useful
All available from this page: http://audacityteam.org/help/
You should find plenty in there to help you with advice on how to setup and record.
