Hello, I have installed the subject on my cp. I found out that I could not export to wave. I couldn't find it. I play music and and convert to wave with the older model.

How can I convert to wave with 1.3.

Thanks

In 1.3.x the menu item now says "File > Export". When you get to the file export dialog there is a "Format" popup menu below the file list where you select WAV, AIFF, MP3 etc. When and if the "Metadata Editor" pops up, be sure to click "OK" not "Save" in that dialog - "Save" just saves your metadata settings. You need to click "OK" in the Metadata Editor, then "OK" in the Save dialog. You can turn off the metadata editor (it doesn't do much good when exporting to WAV) in Edit > Preferences > Import/Export panel.

Hi Bill, thanks, when I click on File and the list comes up, "Export" is greyed out and is not usable. Import is there and it is usable.
Is there something I need to do to get export usable.

Thanks

Make sure that Audacity is "Stopped" (Stop button) and not just "Paused".

Thanks Steve, I must have hit the pause button instead of the stop button. When I click on file - export a box appears with the word modules in the save in box I'm sort of lost. According to Bill's info "When you get to the file export dialog there is a "Format" popup menu below the file list where you select WAV, AIFF, MP3 etc." so I still can't find the "wave" this is the rest of Bill's info:
When and if the "Metadata Editor" pops up, be sure to click "OK" not "Save" in that dialog - "Save" just saves your metadata settings. You need to click "OK" in the Metadata Editor, then "OK" in the Save dialog. You can turn off the metadata editor (it doesn't do much good when exporting to WAV) in Edit > Preferences > Import/Export panel.. Where would I go from here.

Thanks again

Could you tell us exactly which version of Audacity you have - look in "Help > About Audacity"

First, let's get the metadata editor out of the way.
Go to Edit > Preferences. Click on the "Import/Export" tab. Uncheck "Show Metadata Editor prior to export step". Click OK.

Now when you click on "File > Export..." a standard file-save dialog box for your operating system should appear. At the bottom of the dialog box, under the file list, there should be a popup menu labelled as either "Format" or "Save as type". It is from this menu that you can choose WAV. Name your exported file and choose a place to save it in the normal way for your operating system.

Thank you Bill and Steve appreciate your patience, I'm 74 yrs of age but still have a desire to keep learning. I had part of that already done but did not know to go to the bottom of the file and select wave from there.

I have been using the earlier version , but I clicked on something and the upper tier of the toolbar disappeared. You folks tried to assist me in reinstalling but I could never get the part back that had disappeared.

Thank Y ou, Keep up the good work.

Can you reach View > Toolbars? That's a laundry list of what you see and what you don't.

Did we establish you're on a Windows machine? Audacity keeps settings and preferences separate from the program. So to "re-install" Audacity, throw the preferences file in the trash and next startup, you have a brand new Audacity. In Windows and Audacity 1.2 (only), the preferences are kept in the Dreaded Windows Registry and they're a good deal harder to manage.

So that's why your new Audacity seemed to work just like your old one.
