Clipping

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum but have had a search through the 14 or so pages on the topic of clipping.
Anyway, my problem...
For 3 or so years, I have been patiently & succesfully ripping my vinyl to digital format using a PC/M-Audio soundcard & Audacity
Recently tho, I have upgraded to a Mac & bought a new soundcard (Motu Ultralite mk3). When ripping vinyl, the recorded Wav form appears to be within normal parameters with no section peaking too high. I then usually normalise to 0.0.
On playback in audacity though, the volume bars at the top are clipping in the busy sections of tracks (the tester being the bass on LFO) even though I haven't checked the 'allow clipping' box. I have also tried normalizing to -0.1, -0.2 etc, but to no avail
Anybody know what to do or what's happening?
Many thanks in advance.
Mattymi

Can we start with which version of Audacity you are using. (what sort of Mac may be useful too).

That version of Audacity is about 5 years past its sell by date.
The first thing I'd suggest is updating Audacity. You're in luck - Audacity 1.3.9 has just been released - that's the version to go for.

If that does not solve the problem, send a new post to the Mac / Audacity 1.3.x part of the forum.

Mac/Intel/Leopard does not support Audacity 1.2.

I personally use 1.3.7 for day to day work.

Audacity 1.3.7 -- Mac

If adventure runs in your blood, go for the latest 1.3.8 or 9 version.

1.3.9 is now officially released and has bug fixes that are missing from 1.3.8, so 1.3.9 is probably the best option.
(just upgraded on Linux and 1.3.9 rocks! )
