Help for Novice

Post by Beep » Thu Jul 30, 2009 1:08 am

Hi All:
This is my first post. Not sure if I'm in the right place. Anyway, I have a song and the last 45 seconds is recorded really low. I have tried working with effects to make it all one equal sound wave, but nothing is working. What am I doing wrong? How do I make the song all equal in sound?
Thanks!
Lynn

You might try Chris's Compressor as a download plugin. It does a terrific job leveling out a radio show.

I usually increase the compression from 0.5 to 0.8 for my jobs.

Or you can try to do it manually with the Envelope Tool. Put the show on the timeline and select the envelope tool -- two white arrows and a bent blue line. The blue lines that appear in the timeline are rubber bands. You can grab them with your mouse and push them around. The show will get softer in specific places as you do this.

In this case, you would bring down the rest of the show to match the end. Then apply the Amplify tool to bring everything back up level. I'm not sure of the actual steps to do that as I've never had to solve this particular problem.

I'm going to stand in the corner and wait for the heavy production people.
