Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

1.3.8 Won't Start After Download. Error msg

Post by gdownie » Sat Jul 18, 2009 1:23 am

Downloaded beta v1.3.8 onto an XP machine. Installer ran fine. Tried to open app & got an 'Unable to execute file...Create process failed;code 14001...failed to start because of configuration' message. Ended up trying beta 1.3.7 just for yucks & it downloaded/started fine. Should I be happy? Should I need to know why 1.3.8 won't work on my system? Should I care that 1.3.7 is billed as 'other than XP'?

Regards,
g

I'm getting a runtime error when starting on Windows 7 64 bit RC. It runs fine on 32 bit XP and 32 bit Windows 7. On Windows 7 64-bit tried uninstalling removing the folder under appdata as well as all registries entries. Reinstalled still get the error. uninstalled reinstalled 1.3.7 and works fine.

Hi

I'm running XP Pro SP3 and just installed Beta 1.3.8 - it installed without error but gives this error when attempting to run

(I've been running 1.3.7 for some time without issue.)

I downloaded 1.3.8 and it ran fine (the first time). I recorded a bit of audio and opened a VST - which showed up in its full GUI glory. (Thank you for that improvement.)

However ...

When I went to preview the VST Audacity crashed. After that, when I tried to open 1.3.8 again, it waited a long time and then opened and crashed immediately. I see "the recover lost data" box but the Windows dialogue "Audacity has encountered a problem and needs to close." Once I was able to give Audacity a few commands while the Windows dialogue was open.

Now - after the above happened 5 or 6 times - Audacity doesn't open. I just see the Windows crash dialogue.

1.3.7 seems to still work fine. XP 3

I am getting the same message as the OP.
Create process failed;code 14001...failed to start because of configuration...

This is on an WinXP SP3 machine that ran 1.3.7 just fine. Please keep this thread about THIS problem - it is a big one. uninstall, reinstall doesn't work. deleting the audacity.cfg doesn't work.

the two posters with different problems (64 bit Win7 and VST issues) should start different threads. However including me I now see 4 of us with the problem that 1.3.8 WONT START after installing - help!

Same error here.. win xp.. CreateProcess failed; Code 14001

I've been using Audacity since 1.1 both released and Beta versions without issue on any PC I've tried.

Please go to this thread:

and post the details of the runtime error there. Thanks for your help.

Please see this thread:
http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 534#p45667

and add any additional comments there. At present, the best thing you can do is remove the VST plug-ins that are causing the problems.
